TOPIC: [SOLVED] Can't get Add Keywords to work

[SOLVED] Can't get Add Keywords to work 2 years, 1 month ago #3

I have installed the plugin, enabled it and gone through the settings several times but cannot get it to work.

I have created a (new) test article added some text and this is what happens:

  • If I add text to the meta, after hitting apply or save, it removes it and replaces it with nothing
  • If I add text within {text} brackets, it does the same.

My site is poultrykeeper.com - I am running J1.5.15 and AK version RC1, I am also using SH404SEF, This looks perfect for my site as we now have over 350 articles online all with manually generated Meta...

I have attached a screenshot of my setup..

Thank you!

Tim

Hi Tim

This is a problem with the Empty Description/Keyword only option. Turn that off and you should be good to go. I'll be releasing AKRC2 later today with a few little changes and now, a refactored way of handling that option.

Please note, if you choose Regenerate All it will over-write ALL your old keywords/descriptions so think about it carefully, especially as you say you've written individual keywords/descriptions.

Ways around this:

1) When editing an article place @KEEP in the metadata fields to disable AddKeywords from firing. You have to put that in each of description and keywords to make sure that neither are processed.

2) Place metadata in between {}. That will then be added to the automatically generated stuff. It is always added at the end of the metadata unless you specify [start] like the following: {some extra metadescription[start]}

Cheerio

Hi Matt,

Thanks for that. It is working.

It's really important for me to preserve my exisiting meta description.

I was thinking of Regenerating All - but disabling the Description Generation > Article Description from the menu when I do to get my keywords regenerated, to help my related items module find similar articles.

Would this be the right way to preserve my meta description but replace my meta keywords?

Thank You - This is a great Plugin.

That should do the trick, yes. However, I would advise you to back thing up first. If you've invested that much time you don't want it to be wrecked! If you're au fait with phpmyadmin, jsut back up jos_content to something like bak_content and then you can restore what you had immediately if something goes wrong.

Thanks for the compliment. I took over dev of this project and I have plans...

Great thank you.

I am pretty much a novice - not too sure about using phpmyadmin, other than exporting my database as a backup.

I am due to backup the site again after making these changes - so I will do that and then try it.

Thank you for your fantastic support and I look forward to watching the future development of this plugin.

Tim.

RC2 is now available over at the frs on joomlacode, http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/addkeywords/frs/

This has fixed the empty description/keywords bug.

Another nice feature is that if you have this option selected, only empty descriptions/keywords are processed UNLESS you delete what is in the metadata boxes. Then AK kicks in and autogenerates for you. Useful if your article changes substantially.

You also mentioned that you had tried putting something in brackets like this {blah blah blah} to see if that worked. Because the metadata field is no longer empty, it simply returns what was there before. Hence the blank result. Ok?
